California’s immigration intransigence and progressive disregard for the rule of law is making the nation’s largest state potentially an actual threat to the American Republic.

It’s not about their highest taxes in the nation, or their business-crushing regulations. Those mostly place heavy burdens and consequences on the citizens — well, maybe citizens — who vote into office such reckless progressive politicians.

No, it’s about two major directions the state is taking that are almost duty-bound to bring it into conflict with the republic, if there is the fortitude by the federal government and other states to force the issue.

And that question is open right now.

Sanctuary for illegal immigrants

California started the sanctuary city lawlessness way back in 1971 in radicalized Berkeley and slowly more cities joined the subversion. But as of Jan. 1, the entire state of California is now a full-scale sanctuary locale. So no California state, California county or California city law enforcement officers can work with, cooperate with, or turn over known illegal immigrants to federal immigration officials — including illegal immigrants that commit crimes.

Yes, California leadership has learned nothing from the heinous case of Kate Steinle, who was shot to death in 2015 in San Francisco by an illegal immigrant who, instead of being turned over to federal agents requesting him, was set free and committed the crime. That immigrant went on trial for murder, but incompetence being another component of progressivism in government, the prosecution managed to botch the case so badly the killer was acquitted in November 2017 because he was only charged with first degree murder, which was a ridiculously high bar for the circumstances.

But even that is no longer enough. Democratic state leadership is making it clear that not only will they protect and even promote the interests of illegal immigrants within their borders, they are threatening to prosecute Americans who help federal ICE agents enforce the actual law.

This is the governmental attitude that is a powerful part of the equation.

So California, home to at least 2.3 million illegal immigrants, is going to become home to an awful lot more. Once across the border into California, they are here to stay as long as they want. Further, California will graciously provide them schooling, medical care, other welfare benefits, and a driver’s license. Just slip in and head to the nearest California DMV office and you’re gold.

This marries into the next major direction that has the potential to cause even more disruption to the American republic.

Massive voting fraud opportunities for illegal immigrants

California is baking into its laws, regulations and governmental attitude the opportunity for literally millions of Mexican nationals and other non-American citizens to be voting in American elections. This has probably already happened at least in some small ways. The problem is, we don’t really know.

Democratic leadership is doing it on purpose and with purpose. There is no other way to look at it. The supermajority Democratic California Assembly and Governor are actively working — sometimes in plain sight, sometimes in a more shadowy, Deep State sort of way — to subvert American elections.

Original reports from World Net Daily that California will automatically register illegals to vote beginning April 1 when they get a driver’s license appear to be exaggerated. However, state actions and judicial rulings are continuing apace to ensure that some, probably many and one day perhaps millions of illegal residents will be casting votes in California.

The single biggest legislative step is known as AB60, the 2015 legislation that allows illegal aliens to get a license in California. Of course, a license is a primary form of identification. That information doesn’t get forwarded to be automatically registered to vote unless they are U.S. citizens. But here is the key: They don’t have to prove it. Just claim it. Check a box or not check a box. Or possibly just not “opt out” as the paperwork requires them to do if they do not want to be registered.

“You’re setting the state up for a disaster. They don’t seem to have a process in place to verify that people are who they say they are. It’s a free-for-all, a process that can be manipulated,” said Catherine Engelbrecht, founder of True the Vote.

California officials say they have safeguards in place to make sure only American citizens can register, and to follow federal law, but they have not provided any specifics as to what those measures are. That makes it kind of a sketchy “take our word for it” situation without much good cause to actually take their word for it.

Linda Paine, cofounder of the Election Integrity Project of California, said her organization has monitored California DMV offices and found little reason to believe that there is adequate training and motivation to ensure illegal immigrants are not automatically registered to vote.

“There are thousands and thousands of DMV workers across our huge state,” Paine told Fox News. “They’re not all trained. There’s no actual protection to prevent non-citizens from being added to voter rolls. It’s not even that people who are ineligible want to be registered. They may not know that they have to select ‘Opt out.’”

The treacherous extrapolation from California

It’s not particularly difficult to see what is created in this situation. California is already a magnet for illegals, specifically Hispanic illegals as there are such large communities of Spanish-speakers that allow the language barrier to be immediately hurdled.

Any illegal who can get into California, even if they cross the southern border elsewhere, needs only to get a physical address — which will not be verified in any way — to get a driver’s license automatically without questions asked, and then be registered to vote unless they choose to “opt out.”

There’s no reason to think thousands of DMV workers sympathetic to illegals will even be motivated to explain that they need to be American citizens — although again, not verified — or that the illegals need to opt out so they are not automatically sent on to the secretary of state’s office to be registered to vote. And even if motivated, there’s no reason to think training will be adequate. Enforcement of this provision is clearly not a priority — to put it gently — for the state of California.

This means that, almost assuredly, more and more Mexican nationals and other non-Americans will be illegally registered to vote legally in California. (About 56 percent of all illegal immigrants come from Mexico, the remaining 44 percent are split with the rest of the world.)

So when the media asks California election officials about voter fraud, the officials can say honestly that there is none, and show supportive data. All votes were cast by legal voters. But untold numbers will have been registered illegally according to federal law because they are not Americans.

You know who protects the integrity of their voting process? Pretty much everyone else in the world. European nations have very strict voting ID laws, often requiring a photo. So does Canada. You know who else? Mexico! In fact, Mexico has a hologram, a photo and other information that makes it all but impossible to tamper with.

But American Democrats say this is like a Jim Crow poll tax.

If there is no pushback from the feds and from other states, then more liberal states will become emboldened by California’s example. California has been lost for conservatives or any real conservative principles since the amnesty in the late 1980s brought hundreds of thousands of once-illegal immigrants onto the voter rolls to vote Democrat. That tipped the state and it has careened further and further left.

How far does this go? Once you have the largest state in the union tacitly registering Mexican nationals and others to vote you are changing the United States, turning it into a different country, without the approval of actual Americans.

If the Mexicans and others bring their national cultures and standards to their voting habits, then there is little reason to think that the United States will not trend toward Mexico in culture and standards. And who wants that for their children? There’s a reason millions of Mexicans desperately flee their country. Recreating it in the United States would be a global disaster, extinguishing the shining city on a hill. The beginnings of that are being seen in California. But the trade-off is that Democrat politicians now have a choke-hold on the state.

Will Oregon and Washington think this looks like a good route for both ideology and personal power without consequences? Colorado? New Mexico? What about New Jersey, New York and other heavily Democratic states? The picture gets pretty ugly pretty quickly for any sort of law-and-order nation. The results will be chaos, and not just in bedrock elections.

It’s a worst-case scenario. But not unrealistic. California is setting the table — and it’s not for Americans.
