America Border Immigration Truth

The fundamental transformation of America roars forward with a pen and phone

By Rod Thomson

Democrats’ ongoing fundamental transformation of America continues. What they cannot get through Congress — which are the most radical, anti-American ideas they can conjure — they just use the pen and phone as the godfather of radically changing America taught them.

The latest on this front is that the Sock Puppet administration continues to castrate immigration enforcement once the illegals they invited are here. One way or another, they seem determined to turn America into just another, run-of-the-mill, freedom-crushing, big-state nation on the decline.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Wednesday ordered immigration officers not to arrest illegal immigrants at even more places, trying to maintain the pretense they are actually still conducting homeland security that isn’t aimed at parents attending School Board meetings.

Mayorkas said “sensitive locations” or “protected areas” — which in practice are just more sanctuary locations that no one voted for — will be places where Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are now barred from detaining people who broke the law to enter or stay in America. So lawbreakers are “protected” from law enforcement, which as we see with defunding the police is just terrific for the law-abiding community.

Protected areas now include social services facilities such as homeless shelters, anywhere disaster or emergency relief is being provided, and places where children gather, including playgrounds, childcare centers, and school bus stops. These are in addition to the previous safe spaces of churches, hospitals and schools.

It sounds so compassionate on the surface. But legal Americans can be arrested in any of those locations. Guaranteed that the January 6 trespassers and “paraders” would be.

Of course this comes during an historic overwhelming of our southern border at the direct invitation of the Sock Puppet.

The Border Patrol apprehended a total of 1.7 million illegal immigrants along the southwest border in fiscal 2021, breaking every record since the agency was formed in 1925. Another 300,000 people were stopped after trying to enter at a port of entry without legal papers. Estimated “gotaways” — the number of which the agency does not maintain for some reason — hit at least 400,000 in the past year, according to former CBP Commissioner Mark Morgan. That means that nearly 2.5 million people are now in the country illegally, almost all since the Sock Puppet was sworn in. The monthly numbers continue at about 200,000, so the change in our communities is rapid.

Mayorkas said: “We can accomplish our enforcement mission without denying or limiting individuals’ access to needed medical care, children access to their schools, the displaced access to food and shelter, people of faith access to their places of worship, and more. Adherence to this principle is one bedrock of our stature as public servants.”

A few thoughts on his justification. First, it seems like a bedrock principle of public servants who are tasked with law enforcement should be, well, enforcing the law. Second, they are not “their” schools. Those folks are not Americans nor in the country legally. Illegal aliens don’t get squatters rights because they just crossed the Rio Grande and put their kid in a school. They didn’t pay for the school or vote for the School Board. But now the rest of us have to pay for their kids’ education and the law enforcement we already pay for won’t enforce the law.

Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, said of ICE: “The agency still exists, but it has been stripped of all of its functions with regard to the enforcement of immigration laws. Nearly all illegal aliens are already off-limits to enforcement due to a Sept. 30 memo, and as a result of Mayorkas’ ‘expanded and non-exhaustive list of protected areas,’ where ICE agents are permitted to do their work, the secretary has essentially nullified an entire body of constitutionally enacted laws.”

But all of this goes to the Democratic Party now run by radical leftists who see up as down, good as bad, racism as anti-racism, parents as domestic terrorists, laws as obstacles, a border as immoral and America as irredeemably evil — even as the evidence of millions of people trying to get in openly disproves.

Thomas Jefferson: The Media Betrayed America

By Rod Thomson

There is plenty of finger-pointing going on right now over who is to blame for America’s shockingly rapid decline. Joe Biden, Donald Trump, radical Democrats, Trumper Republicans, public education, universities, Hollywood culture, woke culture in general and so on.

But Thomas Jefferson would point to something far more fundamental in the nation’s decline: the media. In 1786, he wrote from Paris to James Curry: “Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.” Freedom of the press has been lost by being willingly given away in service to a single party, rather than a watchdog.

Yes, it is the radicalized Democrat Party making it happen in government at the moment. But it is the media that has betrayed Americans by becoming a one-party propagandistic organ of both misinformation and squashing real stories, rather than being information providers to the American public that Jefferson understood to be essential to the Republic.

Jefferson keenly had so much more to say on this In one of the letters that Jefferson wrote from Paris to Edward Carrington, whom Jefferson appointed as a delegate to represent Virginia in the Continental Congress, he makes perfectly clear the critical importance of unrestricted avenues of information to the American people.

“The people are the only censors of their governors: and even their errors will tend to keep these to the true principles of their institution. To punish these errors too severely would be to suppress the only safeguard of the public liberty. The way to prevent these irregular interpositions of the people is to give them full information of their affairs thro’ the channel of the public papers, & to contrive that those papers should penetrate the whole mass of the people. The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers & be capable of reading them.

Jefferson saw the media as unfettered providers of information to the American public as more essential than the government itself. Of course, this explains why the very First Amendment in the Bill of Rights includes both freedom of speech and of the press, specifically that the government should not “abridge” either. “Abridge” means to curtail a right or privilege. And both free speech and freedom of the press involves the American public being informed in the public square. Newspapers were distributed at the time of Jefferson’s writings and for more than another century, largely in the literal public squares of cities and towns, where speakers would also stand to give opinions from religion to politics to anything else. Is it not clear that Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and the rest act now as the public square?

Jefferson wrote: “Reason and free enquiry are the only effectual agents against error…Reason and persuasion are the only practicable instruments. To make way for these, free enquiry must be indulged; and how can we wish others to indulge it while we refuse it ourselves.”

Yet top government officials, including White House mouthpiece Jen Psaki, openly call on all social media outlets, along with old-line corporate media, to ban “misinformation.” Let us be very honest about this, misinformation is the left’s euphemism for information they don’t want out or opinions they want squashed.

Psaki told reporters that any American banned from, say, Facebook (a major public square for free speech) for spreading “misinformation” should be banned from all social media outlets — all of the public squares of today. “You shouldn’t be banned from one platform and not others for providing misinformation out there,” she said. All public squares must be closed to those who disagree with the government. Closed for good. Memory holed.

That is a powerful member of the government calling on the media to spread the government request (so far a request) that the gatekeepers of the public square block and ban information that the government does not want Americans to get. There is plenty of misinformation floating around. There always has been. But a core essential of America’s grand success is that the government was not allowed to determine what was misinformation and what was not because any sentient being should realize that will lead to government censorship in about five seconds.

How does this work? Psaki’s boss, the President of the United States, has openly lied to the American people dozens of times just regarding the Afghanistan fiasco. But of course that is not the misinformation she is talking about. Questioning the innumerable irregularities of the 2020 election is the misinformation she is talking about, and the social media public square along with the corporate media immediately oblige. Reporting Hunter Biden’s laptop that could incriminate the Democrat running for President is misinformation. Reporting on it minimally now that the Democrat President is in the White House is not. This is also true of Covid, masking and vaccines. So epidemiologists at Stanford, MIT and Harvard who question the government’s pronouncements on Covid are literally banned by the public square of social media and mostly by the corporate media — in the same way Hunter’s laptop was and questioning the 2020 election remains — because they do not align with the CDC, which is part of the federal government.

But of course this is the whole crux; just some people are to be banned from the public square. WrongThink people, to use Orwellian terms, will be silenced. By the government. And the media is not just compliant, but act as censors themselves working in league with the government. It’s possible that Jefferson was so worried about the government infringement, rightly so, he never considered that the media would voluntarily give over their First Amendment rights to the government.

America Free Speech Leftists Truth

The Rape of American Ideals

Rod Thomson

There was a time when Americans of every political stripe would proclaim proudly: I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

That time has disappeared, as the American Democratic left is now in full mob form to shut down free speech on campuses, on social media, on websites, in restaurants, at baseball diamonds, while mowing the lawn or while actually trying to hold a political rally.

This assault on American ideals is as un-American as they come.

Sen. Ted Cruz and his wife were hunted down at a Washington, D.C. restaurant by violent leftist mob bullies that Democrats have defended and lauded, who screamed in their faces until they were forced to leave.

“No—you can’t eat in peace…Your votes are a death wish. Your votes are hate crimes,” the group said in a statement, then tweeted: “You are not safe. We will find you.”

Leftist Democrat mob bullies have done the same thing to Trump spokeswoman Sarah Sanders, to Homeland Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, to White House Senior Advisor Stephen Miller, to Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi many others. All Trump administration officials are targets and many for the first time require security in public and at home.

Leftist Democrat mob bullies do the same things to conservatives on college campuses and kids wearing Trump hats in a burger joint and black conservative Candace Owens at breakfast and on and on, crushing American ideals on their jackbooted march.

Join Our Fight For American Values!

Gov. Rick Scott, Congressman Ron DeSantis, and even Vern Buchanan and others have to keep their schedules secret until the last minute and hire a lot of extra security for every event. Because dangerous screaming leftist Democrat mobs show up at every event to disrupt and shout down. Even then, some have to be cancelled because the pitchfork mob is screaming at the gates.

Recall that a deranged Democrat Bernie Sanders supporter who thankfully was a terrible shot, tried to kill Republican congressmen at a baseball practice. Majority Whip Steve Scalise was seriously injured in the attack. Recall that Senator Rand Paul was attacked by his liberal Democrat neighbor while he was mowing the yard and ended up in the hospital with major injuries.

A Houston restaurant owner had to apologize amid a backlash of violent threats from the leftist Democrat mob after posting a smiling photo of himself with Attorney General Jeff Sessions. He also shut down all his social media accounts. Just recently, a leftist Democrat was arrested after attempting to stab Republican congressional candidate Randy Peters with a switchblade in Castro Valley, CA. Arsonists (presumably leftist Democrats) torched the Wyoming Republican Party headquarters. Leftist protesters stormed a GOP rally in Sarasota, Fla. in August and had to be removed by police.

There are literally hundreds more examples with linked citations for each one.

Even liberals who do not do everything the violent leftists want are in for abuse. Famously liberal law professor Alan Dershowitz said a woman at a party in Martha’s Vineyard threatened to “stab him through the heart” because while he disagrees with Trump policies, he does not support impeachment. “The Democrat Party has been taken over by radicals who have no interest in due process,” Dershowitz said, outlining the obvious. “They don’t want any dissent, they don’t want any argument.”

Like Us On Facebook

These are all connected to the Democratic Party and its extreme and often outlandish rhetoric — including but not limited to Rep. Maxine Waters publicly calling for this — but also making such wild claims against Trump and Republicans that the easily led and emotionally aroused are sure to respond.

This is the reality of the facts that Americans must understand. Seeing the vile depths now being plumbed by Democratic Senators in the Kavanaugh hearings (which were also disrupted by screaming leftist Democrats, invited in by Democratic Senators) it is clear the Democrat Party bears very real responsibility for this raping of American ideals.

Here’s what everyone needs to know and remember: There is no equivalent to this on the right or in the Republican Party. None. Democrats are not targeted, harassed and screamed at in public places on any regular basis, if at all. There are nuts on both sides. But there is no broad scale, organized, funded, ongoing violent harassment except from Democratic leftists toward Republicans.

Free speech is not dead. But leftist Democrat mobs are stabbing it in the back over and over.

None of this comes from Trump or is on Trump, as the train was on the tracks long before he came down the elevator. It’s just become even worse, progressing like so many leftist, socialist revolutions ultimately do.

The question is: Do Americans really want these people in charge while this un-American stench on our ideals is such an important part of their base?

America China Foreign affairs Foreign policy Mexico Trump Truth

America First Doctrine Flourishes From China to Mexico to NATO

Rod Thomson

It can be easy to look at President Trump and see a chaotic bull in the china closet. But those who do — the Democrat/media establishment — miss the overriding consistency in policies, most vividly in foreign policies, and see only a president who acts far outside the modern norm of American presidents.

For many of his supporters, his boisterous method of upending the apple cart is a feature, not a bug. But focusing on Trump’s personality and methods really misses both what the President is accomplishing and the complete consistency in which he is going about it.

So consistent, that it truly deserves the term “doctrine.”

And here it is in plain sight: In every dealing with foreign countries, with trade agreements, with military alliances, America’s interests are the priority. Yes, it’s an America First Doctrine. A big part of the reason it looks so foreign is that it is the first time it has been the active doctrine for an American president since Ronald Reagan.

It is indisputable that the Barack Obama Doctrine on this count was the America Meh Doctrine. George W. Bush’s might be called the New World Order Doctrine. Bill Clinton held to the Bill Clinton Legacy Doctrine. George H.W. was definitely the Globalist World Order Doctrine.

These are just on the foreign stage, but many domestic policies tracked similarly as trade agreements are a mix of foreign relations and domestic. Is it any wonder that a political moderate but American traditionalist like Donald Trump would run on the slogan Make America Great Again? The red hat was marketing. The phrase was genuine. And it obviously resonated with millions of Americans.

But actually putting America’s interest first in foreign policy was duty-bound to tick off a lot of countries that had become accustomed to having the better end of trade agreements or living rent-free under the American military umbrella or tacitly shipping some of their most problematic poor to America to deal with.

Yes, changing that was always going to be messy, and require an aggressive, even bull-in-a-china-closet, personality to pull off. But also one with superior negotiating skills and the unrelenting ability to shed relentless criticism.

Please Help Our Fight For American Values

With China, the trade deals were well understood by those involved on both sides to be terrible for the U.S. In addition to providing Chinese companies virtually every trade advantage, the U.S. shrugged and looked the other way most of the time that China was blackmailing U.S. companies to give up technology secrets in order to enter the Chinese market. That was not free trade nor fair trade. Trump’s America First Doctrine is the antidote because the Chinese government most certainly operates from a China First Doctrine.

With Mexico, U.S. taxpayers, the working poor, minorities and national sovereignty have all been materially damaged by the waves of Illegal, uneducated, unskilled Mexicans and other Central Americans that the Mexican government has ushered to the U.S. border to sneak into the United States. This has been costly at so many levels. But neither Republican or Democratic president made any serious attempts to change the status quo with a corrupt government that Foreign Policy Magazine described this way: “Authoritarian leadership, stifled dissent, limited freedom of assembly, and endless violence are the hallmarks of Mexico…” Trump’s America First Doctrine is the essential policy response to what is obviously a Mexican Corrupt Government First position of the authorities to our south.

So Trump implemented his America First Doctrine and sent the bull into the china closet on both of those fronts — and, apparently, is getting results none of his predecessors could.

But let’s look at NATO, the most recent iteration of the doctrine, to really see how this works with our closest allies.

NATO allies have been shirking their responsibilities for decades, refusing to pay their fair share for defense against Russia. They have relied on the U.S. military, knowing that it has generally been in our interests to defend them. This is easily measurable. The U.S. spends 3.5 percent of our giant gross domestic product on military spending. Keep that number in mind.

Germany, the wealthiest major country in Europe, spends only 1.24 percent of its GDP on defense — even though they face a far more immediate threat from Russia. A study by McKinsey & Co. reports that about 60 percent of Germany’s Eurofighter and Tornado fighter jets, and about 80 percent of its Sea Lynx helicopters, are unusable because of the chronic underfunding. Belgium, NATO headquarters, spends a paltry 0.9 percent of GDP on defense — one-third of which is for pensions.

In 2002, after our European allies were unable to help in any real way in post 9-11 Afghanistan, they promised to fix that embarrassment by spending at least 2 percent of GDP on defense — still far below the U.S. expenditures, but at least something. Alas, they didn’t. Instead, our European allies’ combined defense spending actually declined further, from 1.9 percent at the time all the way down to 1.4 percent by 2015.

Like Us On Facebook

There are 29 countries in NATO. But the United States, across the Atlantic, pays 73% of NATO’s budget to protect all of those European allies from Russia. Not a reasonable arrangement.

In the meantime, they spend more on social programs and on supporting large corporations directly competing with American corporations, such as the Airbus consortium. George W. Bush tried to get them to pay more. And even Obama called them “free riders.” But the nice guy approaches of those two netted nothing — well, less than nothing.

So Trump’s critique of this lopsided relationship is exactly right. And following the America First Doctrine, he unleashes the bull to bang around the china closet because that is what is apparently necessary to get these allies to quit free-loading off U.S. taxpayers. Last year he used harsh words — and naturally was duly chastised by the Democrat-media establishment — and managed to get a small and inadequate increase in defense spending. But he wasn’t looking for token change.

So this year he was more bumptious, and insinuated that perhaps NATO was an unnecessary relic of the past — something that was debated quite a bit in the early 1990s after the Soviet Union broke up and disintegrated, ending the Cold War.

European leaders huffed and puffed in horrified unison with the American Democrat-media establishment, but in the end, the Europeans softened, at least publicly. They seem to understand the arrangement has been great for them, but not for the U.S., since the fall of the Soviet Union. They have been able to blow off previous presidents who had a weaker doctrine. But they have likely come to believe that Trump is not going to back down until America gets a much better deal.

It’s the same conclusion the Chinese have come to, and perhaps the North Koreans. Time will tell on the Mexicans. But while the bull is breaking china in the closet, an altered world arrangement is slowing taking shape that improves America’s relations around the globe — for Americans.

And that’s how Trump’s America First Doctrine works.

America Iran Israel Russia Truth United Nations

America: The World’s Only Entity That Is Truly Too Big to Fail

by Rep. Julio Gonzalez, M.D., J.D.

It has been less than two weeks since Ambassador Nikki Haley’s historic posture at the United Nations. The moment her hand raised in opposition to the tide of anti-Semitism flooding the General Assembly, Haley became a symbol for American resoluteness and the resumption of bold and principled leadership on the part of the United States of America.

Indeed, the experiment on American meekness in the global stage had played out for far longer than it should have. Despite the praise being showered upon the Obama Administration’s foreign policy approach of withdrawal from the world stage and abandonment of its most loyal allies, the result was undeniable. The United States was seen as unreliable, uncommitted, and unpredictable, and its foes scurried to fill the void created by its retreat.

In North Korea, the effort to develop and deploy a nuclear arsenal progressed as its leaders sensed the weakness in American resolve. In Europe, Russia was emboldened to invade Crimea and eastern Ukraine, and still occupies those territories for the first time since the fall of the Soviet Union. In the Middle East, Iran, Hezbollah, and ISIS strengthened their foothold on the region by actually engaging in territorial conquest and fomenting terrorism throughout the world. In Syria, a callus dictator crossed Obama’s crayoned red line with impunity, delivering chemical attacks on his own people while Israel felt the increasing strain of not being backed by its staunchest and mightiest ally. Even in Latin America, the boldness of anti-American sentiment grew as Venezuela repeatedly ridiculed the President and the American people he misrepresented.

And despite the undeniable signs of the destructive consequences of a nation stubbornly selling a “lead from behind” foreign policy approach, the leftist press continued to sell its virtues to a largely dormant public.

America’s U.N. moment

But all that ended on December 21, 2017, when a slender, feminine, American hand somberly and defiantly reached towards the sky, announcing an end to the political nonsense.

Anarchy, once well embedded, is difficult to dispel, and the American plight to rectify the evils lurking within the United Nations is no exception. Nevertheless, the United States is following up on its position, demonstrating that its new approach to the world’s problems will not be fleeting. Ambassador Haley already announced that the United States will be withdrawing more than $285 million dollars of American support to the United Nations. And there is no reason to believe those cuts won’t be more drastic as the United Nations continues its anti-American stance.

Already, 10 other countries have announced their intention to move their embassies to Jerusalem, joining what can now be rightfully considered a movement to rectify the injustices that have plagued the United Nations for way too long.

The fact is, the failure of Obama’s approach to global interaction was predictable, as we have already seen the effects of even a perception of an America seemingly unmotivated in the international arena. Recall Secretary of State Dean Acheson’s “defense perimeter” speech delivered on January 12, 1950, where he failed to include South Korea in the zone of American military interests, which was erroneously perceived by North Korea as lack of interest by the United States to South Korea’s integrity. What resulted was the first international hostility by Communism in the post-World War II era at the expense of thousands of lives and continued regional instability to this day.

Interestingly, throughout the waning months of the Bush years and into the Obama Administration, we heard the seemingly endless narrative about the existence of organizations that were too big to fail.  In the end, and with strong showings by Trump Administration, we are relearning that in fact, there is only one entity in the global stage that is truly too big, too important, and too righteous to fail.

The United States of America.

Vegas Massacre: Americans At Their Best…Politicians At Their Worst

Rod Thomson

While the evil massacre of 59 people in Las Vegas was immediately politicized by those wanting more gun control legislation — despite the reality that everything the killer did was already illegal — average Americans continued to shine in the crisis.

Just as Americans did in killer hurricanes in Texas and Florida. Just as we always do.

As the psychopath continued to fire on the defenseless crowd from the nearby Mandalay Hotel high rise, dozens and dozens of stories have emerged about ordinary people turned heroes in the midst of the deadly chaos.

Repeatedly, concert-goers stopped to help others, went back into the field of fire from safety to aid the wounded — consistently risking their own lives to save others, often strangers.

“There were so many people out there that you wouldn’t think they would be helping others at a time like that, but it wasn’t an ‘every man for himself’ kind of situation,” said Tiffany Michelle, who witnessed the massacre. “Everybody just sort of grabbed somebody around them and tried to do everything they could to get others out.”

Off-duty California firefighter Steve Keys was bent over a shooting victim and performing CPR when he was shot in the back. He is expected to survive.

Retired teacher Mike Cronk told ABC 13 that many concert-goers with and without first-aid training, worked together to help victims get to first-responders — often carrying them. Cronk said he used his shirt to stop the bleeding after his friend was shot three times. He and another woman helped him push his friend under the stage to safety. “I’m no hero,” he said. “But there’s a lot of heroes out there.”

A 29-year-old nurse from Tennessee, Sunny Melton, was at the concert with his wife. When the shots began, Melton stood behind his wife, sheltering her as he guided her toward safety away from the gunfire. He was fatally shot in the back as they neared safety. His wife survived.

Off-duty firefighter Kurt Fowler from Arizona was also protecting his wife by using his body as a shield and was shot, but is expected to recover.

Los Angeles firefighter Mark McCurdy was at the concert with his wife and her sister when the sister was shot. McCurdy carried his sister-in-law to the safety of their hotel room, and once his wife was also safe, he turned around and went back out into the killing field to help others.

In the middle of the night, just a few hours before the politicians climbed out of bed to begin tweeting and issuing statements dividing Americans, regular Nevadans began flooding blood donation centers because of the critical need for blood with more than 500 people wounded.

Blood centers were jammed full by 4 a.m. Through the night, throughout the next day and the following, Nevadans kept giving blood.

A GoFundMe account was quickly established for the victims and within a day had gained more than $2 million. More than 30,000 people contributed, including the Oakland Raiders professional football team, which will be moving to Vegas.

And states jumped in to help, just as they did during the hurricanes.

Drawing on the hard lessons learned after the Pulse nightclub massacre last year in Orlando, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and members of her office are heading to Las Vegas at the request of the Nevada Attorney General to practically help victims of the nation’s latest mass killing.

“Sadly, (in) Florida we know what we’re doing after the Pulse nightclub,” Bondi said. “So many of the victims who died don’t live in Nevada, so help with burial and helping them get back to their respective states…We need to help them work through the legal process, connecting with their families and by getting them services.”

This is America. Not the sleazy, grandstanding politicians. Not the divisive National Anthem protests. Not Antifa or white supremacists. Not the rancor and division that is so prevalent now for political gain.

White, black, Hispanic, male, female were all at the concert, were all helping others and were all lined up at blood banks to help others. Let’s remember this America.

The American Spirit Triumphs in the Midst of Hurricane Harvey

Rod Thomson

Hurricane Harvey has wreaked astonishing and heartbreaking damage on the city of Houston and surrounding Southeast Texas.

A Category 4 hurricane crashed ashore with 130 mph winds, crushing coastal towns, and then parked over Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city. It could not move because two nearby high pressure systems hemmed it in, so Harvey just kept dumping rain — up to 50 inches on parts of the state — overwhelming every device to deal with deluges, including reservoirs. No city is built to handle 50 inches of rain over four days.

But as so often happens, the bigger story was not the brutal storm, but the amazing response of ordinary Americans. The stories of heroism, sacrifice, bravery and neighbors helping neighbors piling up faster than the floodwaters.

Harvey did not discriminate based on black, white or Hispanic. It didn’t zero in on Democrats or Republicans. It didn’t check gender or views on Confederate statues. Harvey destroyed with wanton impunity, without regard to the puny humans in its path, as natural events do. There was no “us” vs. “them” in the divisive memes of today, but man against nature — and man for man.

In the midst of it all, first responders did what they always do, charging into the breach to help those in need. But they were overwhelmed by the magnitude of the disaster. Hundreds, maybe thousands of people with flat boats took to the roads that had become lakes and began looking for the stranded and desperate. They were everywhere. On day 4 alone, more than 8,000 stranded people were rescued from high waters. Many were on roofs or the tops of cars.

Those that could not go, sent help. Donations began pouring in from Americans around the nation. Tens of millions of dollars, and items from diapers to water to First Aid kits. No one checked voter ID, no one asked for the donations to only go to pro-Trump or anti-Trump Americans.

Here is just a tiny sample of average Americans at their best:

  • The young man with no training who took over running a Rockport school that had been opened as a shelter, but not staffed. He organized about a dozen young people to check on people every 30 minutes and make reports. When authorities arrived, they were amazed to find he had stats on total number, medical needs, children, and so on. And yet no experience doing this. He did it because it needed to be done.
  • The Louisiana-based Cajun Navy, an amalgam of volunteer groups, traveled on Day 2 to their neighbors in distress to the west — a small army of trucks pulled flat boats that rescued hundreds of people, maybe more.
  • A woman (with some backup) broke out into gospel singing in a Houston shelter, lifting spirits as people began singing and clapping and cheering.
  • A TV reporter saw a truck driver stranded in his cab as the water rose inside and while on the air, she stopped and ran to flag down a Sheriff’s truck pulling a boat.
  • A Houston furniture store opened up its huge showroom and set up a makeshift shelter for anyone in need. It filled up with people able to get warm and dry on nice furniture. The store owners were willing to take in as many as it could hold.
  • Anheuser Busch actually halted beer production to send thousands of cases of bottled water to victims.
  • States from around the nation sent Guardsmen, convoys of power trucks to start restoring power, sanitation equipment and endless amounts of supplies, as though the whole nation was descending on Houston to help.

The stories will eventually swamp the flood, because after the emergency is over, Americans will continue to pitch in to start the rebuilding of a city. Different sets of volunteer organizations will do what they’ve always done for Americans — and others — in distress and aid in the rebuilding of lives that were turned upside down from the natural calamity.

The disaster even brought out the best in President Trump. He abstained throughout from attacking opponents or news celebrities, and hyperfocused his Twitter feed on the situation in Houston. He rose to the occasion in a way many thought he could not — in the same way so many other Americans did.

Charlottesville Violence Only The Beginning Unless We End Identity Politics

Rod Thomson

This was all so obviously inevitable, the predictable result of divisive identity politics perpetrated on the American people — the exact opposite of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.

Unfortunately, it won’t end in Charlottesville. The alt right and white supremacists, the Antifa and BLM groups — none of whom represent the best or even the good in America — will arm up, plan and ramp up the hatred and divisiveness. Because that is what comes from slicing up Americans by every conceivable grievance.

And instead of calling us higher, to the vision of America as a shining city on a hill, too many Washington politicians will do their best to take personal advantage of the situation. And already have. Democrats have been doing that for years by carving Americans along race, ethnicity, gender and income and pitting them against each other to get the votes of the aggrieved. It’s a directly dis-unifying strategy. Trump appealed to the backlash from that and while he is not a white supremacist, there’s no doubt he attracted their support.

Let’s get a couple of points clear. The alt right is not principled conservatism, or at least the racist elements are not. White supremacists are definitely not conservative. The rally in Charlottesville was ugly and unAmerican in its very origins, long before the violence broke out Saturday. Racists’ actions are hateful and should be called out — whether by whites or blacks or browns or whomever.

But there’s the problem, the step back to see a broader context for Saturday. According to many Americans on the left, particularly in academia, blacks actually cannot be racist because they are a minority and were oppressed by whites in the South 50 years ago. It’s true that they were, but the idea that racism can only come from the majority is nonsensical. Are only blacks racist in South Africa where they are the huge majority? Of course not. Hispanics, the left claims, cannot be racist because they’ve been oppressed by whites all the way back to the initial European settlers — which is not really historically accurate, but it still works to divide. Only whites can be racist by this theory. Yes, that is precisely what the thought-leaders on the left preach and teach, and it works to be wonderfully divisive.

So this did not happen in a vacuum on Saturday. Let’s also be clear on plain human nature. A nation cannot tell an entire class of its people — in this iteration, white males — that they are the source of the country’s evils and have no legitimate opinion on entire swaths of issues. From college campuses to social media, white males are told to check their privilege, sit down and shut up. Literally. That is as unAmerican as the Charlottesville marchers.

If blacks are not supposed to listen to whites because they are white, and Hispanics are not supposed to listen to whites because they are whites, and women aren’t supposed to listen to white men because they are men (I know, it’s not consistent but it is part of intersectional politics, see below) then how does this possibly end well?

To put a fine point on the obvious, it doesn’t.

To think there would not be a backlash by some in the target group was naive at best. Purposeful at worst. To think that when violence was being perpetrated by Black Lives Matter and Antifa, that violence would not be perpetrated by white supremacists, was naive at best. Purposeful at worst.

Why purposeful at worst? Because there is a long line of philosophy on the far left that in order to overthrow the strong national order in the United States, American society must be foundationally destabilized.

Saul Alinsky’s real life radicals

Saul Alinsky was a fairly vile, anti-American radical leftist revolutionary who was deeply influential on the lives of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. This is really important.

In 1971, Alinsky wrote the seminal work for bringing down a stable, democratic America in “Rules for Radicals.” That Alinsky dedicated the book to Satan tells you a lot:

“Lest we forget at least an over-the-shoulder acknowledgment to the very first radical: from all our legends, mythology, and history (and who is to know where mythology leaves off and history begins — or which is which), the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he at least won his own kingdom — Lucifer.”

Alinsky wrote that ethics, integrity and morals should be shunted aside for the purpose of the revolution. He believed that the long-term strategy of pitting segments of society against each other would undermine the nation and lead to the opportunity for, shall we say, “fundamentally changing” the country — in President Obama’s words.

In an interview with Playboy magazine in 1972, Alinsky said: “All life is warfare, and it’s the continuing fight against the status quo that revitalizes society, stimulates new values and gives man renewed hope of eventual progress. The struggle itself is the victory.”

Continuing fight. The struggle itself is victory.

Why is Alinsky so important? For one, he is still a favorite on college campuses. But more importantly, he is a favorite among leading Democrats today. Barack Obama worked directly with Alinsky organizations and taught seminars on his tactics as a community organizer — one of the methods Alinsky promoted in his book. Organize various groups to fight those in authority.

Hillary Clinton wrote her senior thesis at Wellesley College on Alinsky, personally interviewing him for her paper. Alinsky was so impressed by her that he offered her a job, but she chose a different opportunity.

Alinsky specifically urged the division of society into many parts so one part takes from the other part to create “change” — and remember, change is both the method and the goal. That’s precisely what Obama did as President and the general platform of not just Hillary Clinton, but the Democratic Party. I know this sounds partisan, but it is a principled part of today’s progressives and their party. Fundamental change by pitting segments of Americans against other segments of Americans — not principles of liberty or rights, just division and strife.

Obama and Black Lives Matter

Moe reality is that American blacks had a rough go of it for the first three-quarters of America’s history. From slavery to Jim Crow, American blacks have had extra hurdles in pursuit of the American dream, and it is a stain on the country that it was so. That they also suffered under a level of police brutality, primarily in Southern states, is also a fact of history. That there could be lingering resentment over this is understandable, if not laudable.

And racism remains…among all people groups because the reality is that it is a dark element in human nature. It is immune to skin color.

However, we were moving in a positive direction in the 1950s and 1960s. Institutional and societal racism were declining in the United States and the Civil Rights successes in the 1960s were high points in leaping forward. Race continued to play a smaller role in the 1970s, but there was also a rising tide of race grievance where people who claimed to be civil rights leaders in the mold of Martin Luther King, were actually closer to race hucksters acting to greatly enriched themselves while pretending to be about civil rights.

By the 1980s, blacks had become a permanent, uniform voting bloc for Democrats — ironically, given that a larger percentage of Republicans supported the civil rights laws than did Democrats. And the Democratic Party was seeing the electoral benefits of dividing and pitting American against American, a la Alinsky.

Fast forward to 2008. As the first black president, Barack Obama had the unique opportunity to bring racial healing in another great leap forward, and many whites hoped he would do that. Many voted for him specifically in hopes of finally moving beyond race and truly embracing King’s dream.

But remember, Obama was an Alinsky-ite. That philosophy never called for healing, but for a continuing fight against authority — even though Obama was the nation’s ultimate authority as President.

A fair reading of President Obama’s eight years in office is that he made race relations much worse, typically by leaping to conclusions without the facts and actively alienating virtually all police and many white Americans — including some of those who voted for him.

From the Beer Summit to Trayvon Martin to Ferguson to Baltimore, in every instance of conflict between blacks and police or blacks and whites, Obama took the opportunity to deepen black resentment of whites, institutions and cops. Society was stacked against them. It was a poisonous response.

One result was the creation of Black Lives Matter, whose entire mission seems to be to create unrest and dissatisfaction through selective protests — but to do actually nothing in terms of saving black lives. BLM’s actions oppose the principles Martin Luther King espoused, but they are in lockstep with the ones Saul Alinsky espoused.

Of course, there have been bad shootings of blacks by police, and some cops have been arrested and convicted for them.

But Alinsky’s rules do not call for letting laws and the justice system work. They call for destabilization through division and violence to undermine the order of the nation, and BLM is a player in that.

College campus cults and intersectionality

American universities have become a hotbed for identity politics which are enforced through special treatment and speech codes — none of which seem in any way to be Constitutional.

College campuses have “safe spaces” that act as anti-free-speech zones. You cannot say anything that might offend another — and that depends on the other’s definition of what is offensive. Tricky. Other campuses have flipped it to free-speech zones, allowing the First Amendment only in a small, cordoned area that students can avoid. Echoing Orwell’s 1984, Speech codes are common.

And it is on college campuses where all of the Alinsky-ite divisions have been categorized and prioritized into a hierarchy of who bears the greatest grievance. It’s called “intersectionality.”

This is the study of intersections between groups representing different forms of oppression and discrimination. It is used to bind together various aggrieved groups into a political weapon. So feminists and gays and blacks may band together to protest an issue where say, transgenders were not getting fair treatment. This makes them more powerful and is precisely what Alinsky instructed in getting minority groups to create a majority influence and overturn the power structure.

But does a white feminist from the suburbs have the same aggrieved status as a poor black transgendered woman? No!

So intersectionality sets up a pyramid of the aggrieved with women, Hispanics, blacks, gays, transgendered, handicapped, fat, short and everything else. White males are not among those on the pyramid because someone has to be the oppressor. If a person is contained in two or more of these categories, their aggrieved status increases. White females are at the bottom, unless they are transgendered then they rise.

The queen of the pyramid might be a short black transgender female in a wheelchair. Unassailable, according to intersectionality.

It’s tribalism at its most pernicious. It serves to divide and weaken the nation’s foundations because none of it has anything to do with the U.S. Constitution or universal truths for all mankind.

And so…Charlottesville

For years I and others have been warning that this ugly divide-and-conquer identity politics was going to inevitably lead to some dark places in American culture. And so it did on Saturday, as it was building to from Ferguson.

By now most everyone has heard that a “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Va. turned violent and deadly on Saturday. It was spawned out of attempts by leaders in Charlottesville to take down a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.

The demonstration of a weird amalgamation of alt-righters, Confederate sympathizers, white supremacists, KKK-ers and veterans seemed relatively peaceful, if distasteful. The white nationalist flags were ugly. But Black Lives Matters and Antifa showed up in force and both sides had helmets and primitive weapons. Eventually things got violent, which seems like was ultimately the point, perhaps for both sides.

(Ironically, the black-clad Antifa stands for anti-fascist while the group uses fascistic tactics across the country. They are a slice aligned with left, but not always owned by the left.)

Things got really ugly and tragic when a car was driven into the crowded street, apparently aimed at the Antifa and BLM group, with horrific results.

But forgive me if this entire picture does not look a bit like what Alinsky was teaching in Rules for Radicals, a handbook of the activist Left and leaders in the Democratic Party.

The only solution is Martin Luther King’s dream

Martin Luther King was truly one of the great men of his era and a prophet of what is needed to heal this country. His loss was incalculable and I fear we continue to reap the results of it.

In his famous and powerful “I have a dream” speech in 1963 in Washington, D.C., King said, in part:

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

“And when this happens, and when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God’s children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual:

“Free at last! Free at last!

Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”

That is the only American society that can endure. We must choose: The principles of Martin Luther King or the principles of Saul Alinsky.

America Constitution healthcare Truth

A True American Healthcare System

By Rep. Julio Gonzalez, M.D., J.D.

As Obamacare continues to reveal itself as an economic and policy disaster, it strikes me that in undoing this healthcare mess, we are not following the path forged for us by the Framers of the Constitution.

For them, the overarching, driving concern was the protection of the liberties of the nation’s citizens from the intrusions of an excessively powerful government. Translated to healthcare, this would mean protecting patients and their doctors from government interference in their most private and personal dealings.

The Framers accomplished this by creating a national government of specific and enumerated powers that was prohibited from directly regulating the actions of the American people. This latter authority was retained by the states, and specifically not given to the federal government.

So, under this strategy, what would the nation’s health care system look like?

Protecting freedoms, not relying on government

In a truly American healthcare system, the responsibility for funding one’s medical care would fall squarely upon the treated individual. In cases where the cost of receiving treatment became excessive, the individual would be aided by his or her family, local churches, and community charitable organizations dedicated to helping those who couldn’t help themselves.

More importantly, healthcare would be delivered in a society where God and worship played a central role in human interaction. And no, not because the government demanded it, but because the people spontaneously shared this unyielding resolve in a state where an environment encouraging public worship existed and the family was viewed as society’s foundational building block.

It was a milieu where people were continuously reminded of their direct relationship with God and of His greatest commandment; that each person love God with all his might and that he love his neighbor as he does himself.

If the healthcare system needed to be more formalized so that hospitals and healthcare could be regulated or a risk-diverting network could be implemented, then such a structure would be generated and executed by the state, not by the federal government. In fact, if the Constitution were properly interpreted, the courts would hold that the federal government was prohibited from directing the states on creating, implementing, or administering a health care program, or taxing the people directly for the purpose of creating a healthcare insurance company.

Healthcare not part of limited federal government

Other than Dr. Benjamin Rush, who voiced his concern for the potential of healthcare being used as a tool in support of a dictatorial regime, it is likely that the Founders gave little thought to the design of the new nation’s healthcare system. Not only was it orders of magnitude beyond their primary concern of building a functional system of government, but they would have clearly maintained that such was not the role of the new federal government. In fact, they did. It was no enumerated, as mentioned above.

If asked, the Framers would have undoubtedly agreed that the solution to the nation’s healthcare challenges lay not in the acts of politicians, but in the moral compass provided to the people by their Creator and in the unyielding pledge that each and every person had instinctively made to his or her neighbor through his or her faith in God.

It is within these concepts that the true solutions to our healthcare woes is to be found, not in the machinations conceived by politicians or bureaucrats.

Hopefully, we as a nation will recall and apply these self-evident truths before we irreparably tarnish our Great Experiment and make true the warnings of Dr. Rush some 240 years ago.

America Immigration Race relations Truth

America is Not Racist, According to Millions of Eager African Immigrants

Rod Thomson

Like any other country that is truly multicultural — and few if any are as diverse as the United States — America has its race-based challenges. Some are real and some are politically ginned up, but they all become hurdles to a more unified country.

However, maybe the best measure of where America really stands in the world comes from the choices of black African immigrants. Native Sub-Saharan Africans, by their actions of free movement, seems to have judged that America is not racist — or is perhaps the least racist country in the world offering the greatest opportunities.

This conclusion stems from one breathtaking fact: America is the most popular immigration destination for Africans. More than European nations, than Asia nations, than South American nations. More than any other country in the world. It’s not even close. Further, America is becoming geometrically more popular with black Africans every decade.

The New York Times did a story on the phenomena, but either missed or ignored the import of what the actually data means. Their angle was how the immigration was affecting the makeup of New York City boroughs, and they ran it in the New York Region section, not nationally. In fact, you rarely see this data as national news. You decide why.

A shocking slavery comparison

However, the Times story did make this jarring and rather astounding number comparison:

“Between 2000 and 2010, the number of legal black African immigrants in the United States about doubled, to around one million. During that single decade, according to the most reliable estimates, more black Africans arrived in this country on their own than were imported directly to North America during the more than three centuries of the slave trade.”

What? Yes. More black Africans voluntarily chose to come to America in one decade than were forced to during 300 years of slavery. That hardly sounds like a nation with terrible race-relations — at least in contrast to the rest of the world.

And that is the important caveat.

America’s race relations definitely need to improve — and it is on all races to make that happen. But throughout history this has been a global problem. So today, according to the people who have choices of where to immigrate, the fact that they choose the United States in increasing droves suggests that compared to all the rest of the world, we may have the best race relations. Certainly the best race relations and economic opportunities combo.

Geometric rise in black immigration to America

According to a new study from the Pew Research Center, as of 2015, there were nearly 2.1 million people living in the U.S. who were born in Africa. That number is up from 880,000 in 2000 and only 80,000 in 1970. By 1970 Jim Crow was completely eliminated in the South and the Civil Rights Acts were passed.

Monica Anderson, a research associate and the author of the study, said the numbers are doubling every decade, and she expects that trend to continue.

“In 1980 only 1 percent of refugees admitted to the U.S. were from an African country and today that share is about 37 percent,” she told Voice of America in an interview. Consider that. The rate of Africans immigrating to the United States as a portion of our immigrant, legal immigrant, population is 37 times higher than it was less than 40 years ago.

Interestingly, guess which state is the top destination for black African immigrants? California? No. New York? No.

Why a southern, conservative state like Texas, which is supposedly anti-immigration? Specific reasons were not given in the research. But it does not seem hard to surmise.

Still the land of opportunity

Opportunity matters.

Immigrants, legal immigrants, don’t come here looking for handouts and government benefits. They still see America as the land of opportunity, where they can make a better life for themselves and for their children. And Texas is one of the best states for immigrants who want to work hard to get ahead and seize opportunities.

This is all completely countervailing to the views of many in elite American institutions, such as the media, Hollywood and the federal government in D.C. In those circles — and among those they influence — America continues to to be an ultra racist country that elected Donald Trump based on racism.

You can see such stories on virtually a daily basis in national news, online mainstream media sites and in your local media outlets. But they are at odds with this immigration reality — which they all but ignore.

Seeing America as ultra racist considering the state of the world has long seemed fictitious, a political opportunity for many to pit the races against each other in search of money, power and votes. It worked well for some black “leaders” such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, Jr. and new black lives matter leaders such as Deroy Murdock and others. But it is not true. Other causes are driving poverty and violence in many American cities.

And now we can see in black people’s actual life choices from the African continent, it appears even more clearly not to be true.
