Indifference To Dramatic Parkland Changes Out The Left’s Real Goals

Rod Thomson

Rush Limbaugh raised an interesting question on his show recently. Considering all of the school safety measures, mental health spending and gun restrictions passed by the Florida Legislature in the wake of the Parkland shootings, why are the students still protesting?

It’s a reasonable question. And there is one, overriding answer, and it includes the sweeping changes made by a deep red Florida Legislature over vehement NRA opposition, the minimal Democratic support for even those changes, and the relative indifference of the demonstrators and their handlers to those changes.

First, let’s have a quick look at the laws the Florida Legislature passed just a few weeks after Parkland. They are pretty extensive and far-reaching considering how pro-gun the state has been and how short the timeframe for action was.

Perhaps the biggest and most controversial change was raising the minimum age to purchase a gun from 18 to 21. This makes no sense considering the age to drive a car is 16, join the military and go to war is 18, and so on. Those arguments have been well-made by plenty of commentators. But the reality is that this was a huge concession by a very gun-friendly, GOP supermajority Legislature. But the gun-control crowd didn’t even pause in rhetoric or frenzy.

The state passed a three-day waiting period to buy most guns. This is onerous and would not have stopped any of the mass shootings. It’s a sop to the protesters at the expense of law-abiding Americans.

Banning bump stocks passed easily. There’s just not much support for them as they essentially make semi-automatics fully automatic.

Please Consider Supporting Our Efforts

Beyond gun control, legislators included millions of dollars to improve school security and train and arm school employees. The state allotted nearly $100 million to improve school security and $67 million to pay for a new law enforcement program that would allow school districts to voluntarily train and arm employees who do not exclusively teach in the classroom. The “school marshals,” as they are called, must pass 132 hours of law enforcement training, along with a background check and additional “diversity” training.

The legislation allotted another $200 million or more to patch up weaknesses in the mental health system, which is an obvious need, but that was a chunk of unexpected spending.

One of the biggest needs at Parkland was for government, including the Broward County Sheriff Department, to do its job. On that point, a small amount of extra funding was passed to investigate law enforcement failures.

And state law enforcement was given extra power to temporarily remove weapons from people deemed to be at risk, and created a new judicial process to review removing guns and ammunition long term from people deemed a threat to themselves or others.

That is a whole lot of movement, money and restricted rights on a whole lot of fronts from a very red Legislature. It seems like a huge success for the Parkland student demonstrators and their national liberal activist handlers.

Like Us On Facebook

And yet, it’s almost as if Florida did absolutely nothing. The protests rolled on. The attacks on Republicans are unabated. If anything, the rhetoric is even higher.

And so Limbaugh’s question.

The answer goes directly to the hijacking of the tragedy that took place within literal hours of the killings, when anti-gun, anti-Trump and anti-GOP activists quickly began marshalling their forces to take full advantage of the crisis — following the advice of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who suggested that Democrats should never let a crisis go to waste.

And the hijacking went like this: Give lip service to everything else but guns; Focus on guns with a passion and demonize the NRA and NRA supporters into the bogeyman. Side play: Attack all Republicans along the same lines.

The scandalous collapse of government institutions that led directly to Parkland was quickly shelved. The actual evil murderer was ignored. The policies that enable the attack between the Broward schools and sheriff, were dusted away. All the things that could have actually prevented this — the stated goal of protesters — were ignored with the help of an all-too-willing media in order to put all of the spotlight on guns.

So why not take the wins in the legislation? Even boast about them?

Join Our Revolutionary Channel

Because those weren’t the goal. The changes made were a piffle. There are a lot of Democrats and activist leftists who despise guns, along with many things traditionally American. Their goal, it seems even more clear, is to eliminate the Second Amendment (as former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens recently wrote to considerable acclamation) or emasculating it to the point of being worthless both as a check on government and personal self defense.

Consider that the sweeping changes pass the Florida Senate with only three Democrats joining 17 Republicans to vote yes. Why? Democrats in both houses opposed all of the rest of the things in the bill that they wanted because it lacked an assault-weapons ban (read: semi-automatic weapons ban) and armed school personnel.

They don’t want guns in the hands of private citizens. But they do want them in the hands of government. (Note the photo with this story includes a banner from with the Georgia Alliance for Social Justice on it, a radical leftist group.)

There’s no other way to read both the hijacking of the shooting, the minimal Democratic support for the major changes the Florida Legislature made and the relative indifference of protesters to those changes.

Their goal is the elimination of virtually all guns in the hands of private Americans.

New York Times Buries Surprise Study Results To Stoke Racism

Rod Thomson

A hallmark of the modern Democratic Party and Progressive Left in America is keeping racial tensions high. Whether affirmative action reverse discrimination — which is just discrimination — or college quotas or disparate impacts of any variety, the Left sees and lives through a prism of race either for social justice purposes or for cultural power purposes or electoral purposes.

The goal of racial harmony most certainly does not fit anywhere in the spectrum.

A recent New York Times article demonstrates this dynamic perfectly, and adds to the overflowing pot of evidence that most traditional media organizations can simply not be trusted to report honestly on race, along with the pantheon of other political and cultural issues.

In a story under the headline, “Extensive Data Shows Punishing Reach of Racism for Black Boys,” the Times gives a factually gerrymandered take on a study that actually showed much bigger issues and, by the way, included data debunking the disparity-as-racism mantra.

But no political agenda is to be sidetracked with facts. Therefore the Times reported that young black men trail young white men brought up in similar socio-economic circumstances because America is still a widely racist country:

“Black boys raised in America, even in the wealthiest families and living in some of the most well-to-do neighborhoods, still earn less in adulthood than white boys with similar backgrounds, according to a sweeping new study that traced the lives of millions of children. White boys who grow up rich are likely to remain that way. Black boys raised at the top, however, are more likely to become poor than to stay wealthy in their own adult households...Gaps persisted even when black and white boys grew up in families with the same income, similar family structures, similar education levels and even similar levels of accumulated wealth.”

Please Consider Supporting Our Efforts

For progressives, and that is who writes for the Times, the conclusion is systemic racism. Actually, it was the conclusion before the study, as the Times publishes this sort of bad reporting all the time to fit their agenda. Because while that single data point certainly suggests racism as a possibility (as long as we never consider personal behavior as having consequences) it ignores more data that is counterfactual to its conclusion.

Here’s where: The actual study says this disparity does not apply to black women who are brought up in similar socio-economic circumstances as white women.

From the study: “No such income gap exists between black and white women raised in similar households…black women earn slightly more than white women conditional on parent income.”

Further counterfactual: “Black women have higher college attendance rates than white men, conditional on parental income.”

Like Us On Facebook

Well that’s a whole lot of data totally undermining the racism part. If black women do slightly better than white women in similar upbringings, according to this study, and white men do better than black men in similar upbringings, it seems the one thing that is clear is that race is not the disparity driver. Perhaps sexism? But if so, it is reverse sexism from what the intersectionalists say, where a woman is more aggrieved than a man. This study also undermines that thesis.

This turns it all on its head and completely undermines the idea of the “punishing reach of racism” trumpeted in the Times’ headline. But the Times, pursuing an agenda, not journalism, just takes the single data point to try to demonstrate systemic racism. It never asks or pursues the more likely possibility that young black men are making different choices than young white men, young white women and young black women. And here is a big reason for that: If it were the case, en masse, it would suggest a cultural deficiency. And in the age of punishing political correctness, such honest questions cannot be asked.

And so the Times deeply downplays that data on black women flourishing, focusing on the disparity of black men not flourishing. They quote Ibram Kendi, a professor and director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University. “…for whatever reason, we’re unwilling to stare racism in the face.”

Join Our Revolutionary Channel

Real journalists would note that Professor Kendi has an inherent bias here. He’s the director of nothing if there is no serious racism in America. The Times loses a major progressive agenda issue if there is no serious racism in America. The Democratic Party loses a powerful electoral weapon if there is no serious racism in America.

All of them have an incentive to keep stoking the fires that America is a deeply racist country. And they do so, to the profound detriment of the country.

Contrast Between Pence Family Wisdom And Left Ugliness Is Stark

Rod Thomson

The Pence family is an amazing portrait of wisdom and grace under unrelenting, ugly attacks by leftist activists.

Vice President Mike Pence has been assailed repeatedly for his traditional Christian faith, from believing in God’s involvement in people’s lives to not accepting homosexuality as an equivalent lifestyle worthy of extra protections that heterosexuals do not enjoy. He’s been attacked for the private wedding of his Marine son in October being held at a public park in Indiana and inconveniencing people. Even his high moral standard of not being alone with a woman to prevent temptation to sexual infidelity or even give the appearance of it was roundly mocked — until the MeToo movement erupted. Then that mockery fell silent.

Through all this hideous behavior by leftists and Democrats, Pence and his family have remained cheerful, loving and wise. And it shows in their children.

Because now comes Charlotte Pence, his daughter, who is proving to be a chip off the ol’ block.

Charlotte wrote a non-political children’s story about the family bunny titled “Marlon Bundo’s A Day in the Life of the Vice President.” She is donating the proceeds to charities fighting human trafficking and supporting art therapy. It’s just a fun children’s story and was illustrated by her mother, Karen Pence, who it turns out is quite a gifted artist.

But Pence disdain on the left, driven by the gay militant machine that brooks no opposition, could not allow his daughter to just write a lovely, non-political children’s book.

Support Our Efforts On Patreon

John Oliver, one of several late-night-style talkers who have transformed their platforms into Democrat attack dog kennels, is mocking Charlotte’s book and vilifying her father personally at the same time. So, you know, all class.

Oliver released a copycat book called A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo that makes a pair of rabbits gay as the main characters and, naturally, rants against Pence hating gay people (he doesn’t, by the way). Mocking, virtue signalling, ranting, attacking. The left just doesn’t have much else right now. Even this book. It is ironic, in that rabbits are best known for their reproductive acumen and two males ain’t reproducing anything — except snarkiness.

Oliver’s fans thought he had gone too far however and…haha, I’m joking! No, they went even further. Just applauding the snarker for attacking a politician’s child’s innocent children’s book was not enough. Nor could they just buy his book. No, his fans followed in troll fashion and spammed Charlotte’s Amazon page with one-star reviews. Because, well, that’s the sort of thing that rotten people do.

Like Us On Facebook

Fortunately, Charlotte is long acquainted with the hate emanating from the left for people who disagree with them. It is brutal, personal and ugly. (I know this personally.) She handled it all with the kind of grace the troll leaders like Oliver and his minions truly cannot imagine.

She thought his book was great and she lauded him for sending the money to charities, just as she is doing. “I’m fine with it!”

She comes by this affable, generous attitude because of how she was raised.

Charlotte once relayed her dad’s advice to her when protesters (it’s just what liberals do) would be outside their residence chanting things about her dad she knew to be untrue.

Mike Pence simply and beautifully told his daughter: “Charlotte, that’s what freedom looks like.”

Join Our Revolutionary Channel

As ugly and hurtful as the protest lies were, she realized that protests being allowed against a powerful man meant we still have a great and free country, filled with individual liberties.

The Pences are quite a compare and contrast moment with what else is going on.

If you want to support Charlotte’s book, it’s here on Amazon.

The Parkland Anti-Gun Washington March Is Backfiring

Rod Thomson

It’s fortunate for conservatives in this country that progressives are incapable of self-restraint when it comes to political opportunism.

They cannot simply play the hand they have been dealt, they must massively overplay it as though two pair is a straight flush. This isn’t bluffing. They actually think they have a straight flush. We’ve seen this in response to small scandals or just possible scandals involving President Trump immediately jumping to impeachment and the most dangerous and out-of-control president ever. Preposterous, but that is what they see in their hands. Is anyone even talking about Russian collusion anymore?

And we’re seeing it with the post-Parkland shooting response. A Fox News general congressional ballot poll showed the Democratic lead has shrunk to only 5 points, after it was at 15 points in October. So this includes the effects of the tax package in December, but the poll was taken March 18-21, so the biggest issue in that period and for weeks before was the fallout of the Parkland shooting. And yet the gap has closed significantly.

Actually, it may not be an “And yet” statement, but more of a “Because” statement. The reality is that Republicans have been shown to be lackluster in their approach to the 2018 midterms. There just hasn’t been a ton of passion for several reasons, and that was going to benefit Democrats and, theoretically, gun control advocates.

But that may be changing, and it may be thanks to the Parkland kids and the adult users and abusers who have manipulated them into frontline activists who lack any understanding of the broad societal or historical implications of their actions .

A sure-fire way to light a fire under the conservative base is to go after guns in a broad, sweeping way and then tell anyone who disagrees with them on principle, history and constitutional grounds that they have blood on their hands.

Support Our Efforts On Patreon

The Parkland kids had a chance to actually affect change that could have prevented the Parkland shootings. They could have protested and pressured the Broward County School District and Broward County Sheriff Department over policies and failures that allowed the killer to be free to murder 17 people after 39 police visits to his home, his parents’ reports that he was a threat to the school and his own report to authorities that he was a threat. Government failed the kids at Parkland all the way up to the FBI.

But the kids were hijacked by leftist activists and pivoted to guns, rather than the government. In fact, in the pivot they are arguing for much more power to be vested in the very government institution that failed them at Parkland. But they don’t really know that. They’re just kids.

However, the adults that have used them, specifically the leaders of the Women’s March and gun-control groups, do know that. And want that.

Like Us On Facebook

And that may be the undoing. Because people who are not hugely political are starting to pay attention. They feel they are being attacked and lectured to by “disrespectful” kids. (An interesting throwback phrase I’m hearing more of lately.) And pro-Second Amendment supporters are told if they disagree with a bunch of teens, then they have blood on their hands. That got their attention, all right.

Couple that with some of the language at the march over the weekend, including plenty of “revolution” and “taking control” and so on. When people hear that language regarding Second Amendment rights and they actually understand the purpose of the Second Amendment, the kids and activists have their attention. Just not in the way they desired.

This is intuitive to many of us. The generic ballot tracking polls just reinforce it. It would not be surprising to see those close further after the weekend. Plenty can happen between now and November. And will. But if the left keeps up this drumbeat attack on broad control, it may be a gift to Republicans.

Why I Finally Joined The NRA

Rod Thomson

I’ve never been interested in guns. I grew up with guns. I went hunting. I own a gun. But I have no real interest in them as many of my friends and family do, who will talk my ears off about guns in much the same way many talk about cars or fishing or football.

I’ve never been a member of the NRA. Never sent them a dime. When I was a lonely conservative in a sea of liberals while working at daily newspapers in the ’80s and ’90s, I had an NRA bumper sticker posted in my cubicle for everyone to see. But that was just to drive my colleagues bananas, which it did along with the Ten Commandments plaque.

However, I’ve long understood the Second Amendment. It is clear it was the Second to buttress the First when there were eight other slots for it in the Bill of Rights. The framers considered the right to bear arms as both the natural right of humans for self defense and as a last line of defense against a government intent on destroying the rights enumerated in the First Amendment and the rest of the Constitution. A well-armed citizenry is very difficult for a tyrannical government to subjugate.

The National Rifle Association is the nation’s preeminent defender of the Second Amendment. I sometimes have thought they were too rigid in their slippery slope concept, but generally supported what they did. I just never joined.

I can’t really explain why. It’s certainly not any antipathy towards guns. It’s not any misunderstanding that the Second Amendment is about hunting. Perhaps, it was partially as a single-income family with eight children — I’m a lifelong tightwad. But really, 20 years ago, surrounded by newsroom liberals and fighting those battles on every issue, perhaps even I didn’t want to be painted as an “extremist” on just one issue.

All that has changed.

Watching the now abusive nature of the militant and dangerous part of the left in this country, willing to use emotionally traumatized teens to further their autocratic government agenda to weaken this indispensable American right, it’s become clear that the NRA, and as importantly, its membership, is a bulwark against the further diminution of American civil liberties.

This is a straightforward response to the wild and irresponsible reactionary Left since the Parkland shootings. From the vicious attacks on NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch at the CNN “townhall” and afterwards, to the abusive use of emotional teens to pursue a radical leftist agenda by professional activist organizations such as the Women’s March and Black Lives Matter, to the Democrats smelling another opportunity to regain power — their issue du jour —  I realized that the NRA has become one of the indispensable front lines of defense for Americans and our ultimate ability to defend ourselves against attackers and our rights against a coercive government.

The NRA’s actions are about more than just gun rights. They are about the rest of the Constitution, too. They suffer the slings and arrows and absorb the blows that the Progressive Left and their propagandists in the traditional media would otherwise be aiming at individual, traditional Americans.

They form a front line of defense and they can rally a deep reservoir of traditionalist Americans like few other groups. While their focus is Second Amendment, their impact is much broader and far reaching.

Like Us On Facebook

At its core, the NRA is a civil rights organization. Sure, the media and rest of the Left will scoff at that. But then they consider Al Sharpton and the Southern Poverty Law Center civil rights leaders. So they obviously don’t understand actual civil rights. But that is exactly the role the NRA is now playing in our country: Defender of American civil rights. And it may be one of the most indispensible such organizations out there because of its focus on the amendment that acts as a fists-up defense of all the others.

So if the NRA has been defending the Right that is the last-line defense for all other Rights — which is essentially what the NRA has been doing for the past 100 years, but much more so in recent decades — then the reality is that their only real extremism is in defense of liberty. And as Barry Goldwater said: “Moderation in the protection of liberty is no virtue; extremism in the defense of freedom is no vice.”

What’s may be most meaningful about the NRA is that, unlike many leftist groups funded by the likes of George Soros, its strength is not in its money, whether through campaign contributions or other promotions. The NRA has donated less than $4 million to congressional races in the past 20 years. That is essentially a rounding error in the total amount spent on congressional races in that time. Even the liberal Vox has figured this out and reported it honestly when talking about the donations to Sen. John Cornyn, who is one of the top recipients with $30,000 since 2002:

“But it was a drop in his much bigger ocean of donations. In 2014 he raised $14 million, including $57,000 from Exxon alone. The NRA was nowhere near his top 15 biggest donor contributors. All of the money the NRA has given Cornyn for more than a decade might pay for about 1 percent of his fundraising for one election cycle — and Cornyn is one of the biggest recipients of NRA cash in Congress.

No. It’s strength is in its people, in the millions of members that it bands together to protect this essential right that the framers raised up to second in line. These members vote in high numbers and they vote heavily on this issue. That is where the NRA’s power comes from — the power of democracy in action by an activated electorate.

But knowing all this, I still had not joined. Until now. Watching the now abusive nature of the militant and dangerous left in this country, willing to use emotionally traumatized teens to further their autocratic government agenda to weaken this indispensable American right, it’s become clear that the NRA, and as importantly, its membership, is a bulwark against the further diminution of American civil liberties.

And for that great and noble cause, today I’ve joined the NRA.

Leftists Own Every Propaganda Tool — Yet Cannot Win Over Americans

Rod Thomson

It’s stunning how thoroughly the American Left dominates every lever that moves the American culture, that shapes the broad narrative and forms public opinion — and yet it does not dominate in either the elections or in polls on self-identification.

While it is amazing Republicans can ever win in such an environment of dominant cultural institutions being leftist and Democratic, this is actually wildly good news.

It means, unbelievable enough, that Americans are still strongly resistant to the kind of collectivist, subservient mindset that is rampant in an ever-diminishing Europe. It means that while Americans are not exactly of the hearty 19th century settler style anymore, we still value our individualism and liberties and recognize America truly is an exceptional nation.

This is the only conclusion given the level of propaganda being waged.

The traditional and still dominant news media, virtually every college campus, public schools, Hollywood and the music industry are all hardcore Leftist institutions and have been for many decades. Their propaganda has driven enormously damaging trends in the country and the acceptance of self-harming activities as normal.

But even with this tsunami of public movers, Leftist core ideals seem unable to ratchet off course the basic metal of the average American. Consider, at this moment, the President of the United States is Republican, the U.S. Senate is Republican, the U.S. House is Republican, 32 state legislatures are Republican and 33 governors are Republican. At every level of government, Republicans have majorities. They may not be all that conservatives want, but they are the only party representing traditional American values and norms.

Join Our Supporters On Patreon

Now, however, with new technologies, another wave of Leftist inculcation of the masses is apparent in the big social media conglomerates. Facebook, Youtube and Twitter have all been more and more openly putting their fingers on the scales to favor liberal content creators. And, much more actively and effectively as a propaganda tool, they are suppressing opposing views of conservative creators.

For instance, Youtube last year began the adpocolypse, demonetizing conservative sites so no ads would show, and further, restricting their viewing. This included such mainstream conservative sites as PragerU, which is suing the giant video-sharing platform. Now, however, Youtube has gone further by actually closing accounts, in the beginning of what looks like a purge. These have been mostly alt right accounts, but they also suspended generally conservative sites, such as Steven Crowder’s.

This activity by the social media giants all falls under the rubric of “offensive speech” policies. These policies are heavily tilted toward liberal speech only. Anything anti-Muslim is offensive speech, anything anti-Christian is free speech. Opposition to normalizing gender confusion is offensive speech, pro gender confusion is free speech. You get it. Needless to say, liberal accounts are largely unaffected, which is the point of these policies.

Twitter has been doing it longer. Facebook was caught cooking its “trending” list into liberal trending, and now they and others are trying to clamp down on “fake news.” Of course, fake news is almost totally subjective. So they are using liberal dominated organizations such as Politifact, Snopes and the extremist leftist organization Southern Poverty Law Center (which considers organizations with traditional Christian beliefs as hate groups) to determine what is fake news.

Like Us On Facebook

And despite this smothering level of propaganda, at every level of influence on American life, the party most closely aligned traditional, conservative ideals is dominant right now? Surely there will be a swing back toward Democrats because that is the history of the United States. But considering all, how is this even possible?

The only answer is that a strong vein of our founding truths still runs through most Americans.

Patriotic and Christian movies consistently do very well, despite being constrained by lack of capital, advertising and screen showings. American patriotism — at its best representing the unique goodness that is America, even with all her flaws — still thrives. Christianity has not yet gone the way of Europe and remains a mighty force in American life. Individual American generosity (not government grants) remains unparalleled in the world. The desire for freedom, for Americans and for others remains so strong it can lead us down wrong paths, such as nation-building. But the impetus is uniquely American, and good.

Things may yet change for the worse. As the great philosopher Yoda said, “Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future.” Yet it should be an encouragement to all who understand America, her foundations and her significance to the welfare of the world, that all has not been lost in this liberal onslaught on the culture.

Americans remain a unique people in an exceptional nation.

2 Simple Reasons Why The American Left Instinctively Seeks Censorship

Rod Thomson

It’s pretty obvious to every conservative in the country by now that the American Left is where virtually all censorship resides. Not every liberal is a censor, but modern liberalism promotes censorship. Of course, you only know this if you get news and information from more outlets than the old, traditional media.

Whether it is college campuses run by the Left and instituting liberal-approved speech codes and tiny free speech zones on campus, their practical goal is censorship;

Or it is demonstrators and marchers who shout down conservative political opponents, refusing to allow them to speak and often threatening the institution that dared even allow them;

Or it is the violent, progressive, Communist, anarchist Antifa that roams the streets of our most liberal cities to attack conservatives or Trump supporters for being conservatives or Trump supporters;

Or it is the social media giants such as Youtube demonetizing conservatives for saying conservative things (Prager U is the most egregious example) or Twitter suspending conservative accounts for tweeting conservative ideas or Facebook blocking posts that are politically incorrect based on the recommendations of liberal organizations such as Snopes determining they are “fake news;

Or it is our public schools indoctrinating students with progressive ideals and punishing those who deviate, such as the New Prague Minnesota High School kid who came out during the national school walkout with a sign that said guns don’t kill people, people do, and the principle forcing him away — this was a consistent theme around the nation, no deviation from the progressive message at many schools;

Or it is the ever-expanding universe of political correctness determining things you cannot say without dire personal consequences, i.e. if a person has XY chromosomes and a penis, that person is a man.

Our Youtube Channel

Each of these areas stem from the American Left, and we can all come up with more. Every one is dominated by progressive liberals and one of their consistencies is a sort of instinctive lurch to squash any speech with which they disagree. Their practical goal is censorship. We wrote about Boston’s liberal mayor shutting down free speech he disagreed with in August 2017.

One is hard-pressed to come up with a single example of an institution on the Right that seeks censorship, to shut down the speech of liberals.

So the question is why? What has happened where the very bastions fighting for free speech 60 years ago, such as universities and liberals in a general sense, are now the anti-free speech totalitarians?

There are at least two explanations.

• Government Knows Best. The instinct of liberals is that government is the best institution for solving societal woes. Not the family. Not the church. Not community organizations. Government. This, of course, is the antithesis of the thinking of the founders and framers of the nation, who saw the government as the single biggest threat to a society made up of individuals.

That’s why socialism is such a cozy fit for a progressive liberal: Benevolent government, run by the smartest among us, owning and distributing society’s wealth and making all the big decisions, is surely far better than selfish capitalists and ignorant masses making those decisions in chaos.

If you prefer central government decision-making over individual liberties — which is not the words, but most certainly the practice on the Left today — then of course you are hardly going to be in favor of uncontrolled speech by the masses.

• Liberal Ideas Don’t Win Arguments. This is going to trip some triggers — so perhaps a trigger warning is in order — but liberalism generally builds its belief structure on emotions, not on rational, data-driven, science-grounded arguments. This is why contradictions and inconsistencies are so common, and why liberals are so quick to resort to demonstrations and protests with signs and placards — those can capture emotional sentiments much better than reasoned arguments.

Consider these hackneyed banalities:

> A baby before the birth canal may be terminated at the mother’s whim, because it is her individual “choice” whether that is a human or not — despite science screaming the baby’s measurable humanity by 4-6 weeks, and what ultrasounds show is going on the whole pregnancy. Moments later when it is out of the birth canal, she cannot because the exact same act would be murder. Inside, can kill. Outside, murder. Same baby, just seperated by moments.

> Two dads or two moms — gay couples as parents — are just as good at parenting as traditional husbands and wives — despite the weight of fully available studies showing just the opposite.

> A man can believe he is a woman and not only is that acceptable and not a mental condition — which it obviously is — but we must contort our society down to school restrooms, showers and sports teams to accommodate gender-confused people. They obviously need compassion and help. That is not it.

> There are 63 genders. So far. Enough said.

> Hate speech is not free speech. No hate speech allowed!

These are laughable, and tragic, but hardly isolated.

Like Us On Facebook

Let’s take a very recent example. The entire liberal establishment — from media to schools to activist organizations — used and propagandized students nationwide after the Parkland, Florida, shootings to push for gun bans even when it came out that the Broward County Sheriff, Broward County Schools, the state of Florida and the FBI all massively failed to do their jobs competently in this case.

A reasonable way to sum up their argument is that government failed at every level to protect us, we need to ban guns and have government protect us.

Conservatives can shoot a thousand holes in the arguments made about the need for gun control after Parkland.

But the reality remains: the more an institution is dominated by liberalism, the less that institution will brook any contrary speech. Alas it is true: Censorship is part and parcel with liberalism.

Science Explains Why Activists Can Exploit Teen’s Emotional Trauma

Rod Thomson

The fallout from the Parkland school shooting is demonstrating how left-wing activists are willing to exploit vulnerable teens in pursuit of a political agenda. It’s a despicable act. We should be protecting grieving teens from this sort of manipulation, not using them as pawns. But expect to see more, and younger children, too.

Part of our culture is willing to make children secondary to adults’ lives, quickly pushing them out of the way to pursue careers or more money; willing to rack up a national debt that is an abomination they will have to pay for — merely to help personal re-elections; shove them in front of violent, graphic “entertainment” to make a buck; and generally make them secondary to our lives.

But suddenly, when they are useful for a political agenda, they’re super important and we turn them into pawns to be used by adults willing to prey on their emotional vulnerability. This is a vulgar treatment of children.

Now is the very moment they should be nurtured, helped through their grieving, allowed to move beyond the atrocity committed, grow through understanding of dealing with tragedy in life.

Activists who exploit them for their left-wing agenda are particularly awful given the developmental state of teens, as understood through the science of the brain.

Our Revolutionary Youtube Page

Teenagers as a group and compared to their adult selves, are not good decision-makers, and certainly not up to the task of advocating for wise public policy in a complicated issue.

The prefrontal cortex, the part of the brain that drives rational thought, good judgement and long-term consequences, does not fully develop in a person until age 25 or so. But the amygdala, the part of the brain that drives emotions, develops more quickly.

In a teen, these are out of balance (it was that way for all of us) as the amygdala is further along. This is why teens so frequently baffle their parents by responding so emotionally and apparently irrationally to situations. Their amygdala is overriding the undeveloped prefrontal cortex. As they age, this balances out more.

This is explained easily by the University of Rochester Medical Center. It’s also explained pretty fairly at The Conversation, offering help for parents dealing with irrational teens. If you think about teens, yourself as a teen, those you have seen and known, you know this is true.

Something else crucially important: Teens, generally speaking, are easily influenced by peers and the need to fit in, and are particularly easy to manipulate and exploit compared to what they will be in 10 or 20 years. This is also due to the same developing brain structure, although every parent knows it to be true.

Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous organizations that will take advantage of an atrocity, such as the Parkland school shootings, and use teens as their emotional proxies to pursue bad policy. This doesn’t mean the teen’s suffering (those from Parkland, specifically) is not real, or that they do not feel totally sincere in their protests. Surely, both are true.

It does mean that they are being manipulated by what are not good people, willing to exploit teen grief for their own political ends. It is well reported that these are not spontaneous demonstrations. The organizers of the Women’s Marches are behind the rallies in Tallahassee, Washington and around the nation, marches and school walkouts. All basic, long-time tactics of left-wing activists to apply emotional pressure.

When NBC News reports that “Students seize control of gun debate, plan walkouts and march” they should run a correction. More like, “Seasoned left-wing activists seize control of gun debate, use students as tools.”

So when you see the demonstrations in the news, breathlessly being covered by a sympathetic media, what you are actually witnessing is an exploitation of emotionally grieving teens by adult activists who have been otherwise unsuccessful in changing a policy.

I will not be paying much attention to the teens at the demonstrations, because I cannot learn more than that they feel deep grief for their lost classmates, and I already know that. What they need is guidance and help processing their grief, not being abused as tools by “any means possible” people.

If it is on the gun-control debate, I want to hear from people who have studied the issue, who are well versed in facts and reality and considered solutions based on what has worked and not worked. Not from grieving teens who are being used by manipulative exploiters.

VIDEO: Defending Support for Trump’s Presidency as a Christian

The Revolutionary Act’s Rod Thomson recently appeared on an ABC panel to discuss his column on how a Bible-believing Christian can support the Trump presidency.

The panel included a liberal activist theologian and a liberal professor, so time was limited and of course difficult to stay on point. It was a good if somewhat frustrating opportunity.

The article has a more full explanation of the position. You can read it here.

California: A Growing Threat to the American Republic

Rod Thomson

California’s immigration intransigence and progressive disregard for the rule of law is making the nation’s largest state potentially an actual threat to the American Republic.

It’s not about their highest taxes in the nation, or their business-crushing regulations. Those mostly place heavy burdens and consequences on the citizens — well, maybe citizens — who vote into office such reckless progressive politicians.

No, it’s about two major directions the state is taking that are almost duty-bound to bring it into conflict with the republic, if there is the fortitude by the federal government and other states to force the issue.

And that question is open right now.

Sanctuary for illegal immigrants

California started the sanctuary city lawlessness way back in 1971 in radicalized Berkeley and slowly more cities joined the subversion. But as of Jan. 1, the entire state of California is now a full-scale sanctuary locale. So no California state, California county or California city law enforcement officers can work with, cooperate with, or turn over known illegal immigrants to federal immigration officials — including illegal immigrants that commit crimes.

Yes, California leadership has learned nothing from the heinous case of Kate Steinle, who was shot to death in 2015 in San Francisco by an illegal immigrant who, instead of being turned over to federal agents requesting him, was set free and committed the crime. That immigrant went on trial for murder, but incompetence being another component of progressivism in government, the prosecution managed to botch the case so badly the killer was acquitted in November 2017 because he was only charged with first degree murder, which was a ridiculously high bar for the circumstances.

But even that is no longer enough. Democratic state leadership is making it clear that not only will they protect and even promote the interests of illegal immigrants within their borders, they are threatening to prosecute Americans who help federal ICE agents enforce the actual law.

This is the governmental attitude that is a powerful part of the equation.

So California, home to at least 2.3 million illegal immigrants, is going to become home to an awful lot more. Once across the border into California, they are here to stay as long as they want. Further, California will graciously provide them schooling, medical care, other welfare benefits, and a driver’s license. Just slip in and head to the nearest California DMV office and you’re gold.

This marries into the next major direction that has the potential to cause even more disruption to the American republic.

Massive voting fraud opportunities for illegal immigrants

California is baking into its laws, regulations and governmental attitude the opportunity for literally millions of Mexican nationals and other non-American citizens to be voting in American elections. This has probably already happened at least in some small ways. The problem is, we don’t really know.

Democratic leadership is doing it on purpose and with purpose. There is no other way to look at it. The supermajority Democratic California Assembly and Governor are actively working — sometimes in plain sight, sometimes in a more shadowy, Deep State sort of way — to subvert American elections.

Original reports from World Net Daily that California will automatically register illegals to vote beginning April 1 when they get a driver’s license appear to be exaggerated. However, state actions and judicial rulings are continuing apace to ensure that some, probably many and one day perhaps millions of illegal residents will be casting votes in California.

The single biggest legislative step is known as AB60, the 2015 legislation that allows illegal aliens to get a license in California. Of course, a license is a primary form of identification. That information doesn’t get forwarded to be automatically registered to vote unless they are U.S. citizens. But here is the key: They don’t have to prove it. Just claim it. Check a box or not check a box. Or possibly just not “opt out” as the paperwork requires them to do if they do not want to be registered.

“You’re setting the state up for a disaster. They don’t seem to have a process in place to verify that people are who they say they are. It’s a free-for-all, a process that can be manipulated,” said Catherine Engelbrecht, founder of True the Vote.

California officials say they have safeguards in place to make sure only American citizens can register, and to follow federal law, but they have not provided any specifics as to what those measures are. That makes it kind of a sketchy “take our word for it” situation without much good cause to actually take their word for it.

Linda Paine, cofounder of the Election Integrity Project of California, said her organization has monitored California DMV offices and found little reason to believe that there is adequate training and motivation to ensure illegal immigrants are not automatically registered to vote.

“There are thousands and thousands of DMV workers across our huge state,” Paine told Fox News. “They’re not all trained. There’s no actual protection to prevent non-citizens from being added to voter rolls. It’s not even that people who are ineligible want to be registered. They may not know that they have to select ‘Opt out.’”

The treacherous extrapolation from California

It’s not particularly difficult to see what is created in this situation. California is already a magnet for illegals, specifically Hispanic illegals as there are such large communities of Spanish-speakers that allow the language barrier to be immediately hurdled.

Any illegal who can get into California, even if they cross the southern border elsewhere, needs only to get a physical address — which will not be verified in any way — to get a driver’s license automatically without questions asked, and then be registered to vote unless they choose to “opt out.”

There’s no reason to think thousands of DMV workers sympathetic to illegals will even be motivated to explain that they need to be American citizens — although again, not verified — or that the illegals need to opt out so they are not automatically sent on to the secretary of state’s office to be registered to vote. And even if motivated, there’s no reason to think training will be adequate. Enforcement of this provision is clearly not a priority — to put it gently — for the state of California.

This means that, almost assuredly, more and more Mexican nationals and other non-Americans will be illegally registered to vote legally in California. (About 56 percent of all illegal immigrants come from Mexico, the remaining 44 percent are split with the rest of the world.)

So when the media asks California election officials about voter fraud, the officials can say honestly that there is none, and show supportive data. All votes were cast by legal voters. But untold numbers will have been registered illegally according to federal law because they are not Americans.

You know who protects the integrity of their voting process? Pretty much everyone else in the world. European nations have very strict voting ID laws, often requiring a photo. So does Canada. You know who else? Mexico! In fact, Mexico has a hologram, a photo and other information that makes it all but impossible to tamper with.

But American Democrats say this is like a Jim Crow poll tax.

If there is no pushback from the feds and from other states, then more liberal states will become emboldened by California’s example. California has been lost for conservatives or any real conservative principles since the amnesty in the late 1980s brought hundreds of thousands of once-illegal immigrants onto the voter rolls to vote Democrat. That tipped the state and it has careened further and further left.

How far does this go? Once you have the largest state in the union tacitly registering Mexican nationals and others to vote you are changing the United States, turning it into a different country, without the approval of actual Americans.

If the Mexicans and others bring their national cultures and standards to their voting habits, then there is little reason to think that the United States will not trend toward Mexico in culture and standards. And who wants that for their children? There’s a reason millions of Mexicans desperately flee their country. Recreating it in the United States would be a global disaster, extinguishing the shining city on a hill. The beginnings of that are being seen in California. But the trade-off is that Democrat politicians now have a choke-hold on the state.

Will Oregon and Washington think this looks like a good route for both ideology and personal power without consequences? Colorado? New Mexico? What about New Jersey, New York and other heavily Democratic states? The picture gets pretty ugly pretty quickly for any sort of law-and-order nation. The results will be chaos, and not just in bedrock elections.

It’s a worst-case scenario. But not unrealistic. California is setting the table — and it’s not for Americans.
